SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (JULY 6, 2021) – Utah Community Builders, the social impact nonprofit of the Salt Lake Chamber, in partnership with inWhatLanguage, a leading localization and translation technology provider, has released the Suicide Prevention in the Workforce Employer Toolkit in Spanish. The toolkit was originally released last October during the launch of the Workforce Resilience Through Mental Fitness initiative. As Spanish speakers make up nearly 12% of Utah’s population, they are a crucial part of the workforce.

“Utahns from all walks of life have unfortunately felt the impact of suicide,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance. “By translating the toolkit into another language, the business community will be able to reach more individuals with information and tools to assess and improve the mental and emotional wellness of their employees. We hope to reach more people in our community and help them feel genuinely supported.”

The workplace is a critical area to address mental health and suicide prevention. This Toolkit is a call to action for employers to implement and refine strategies focused on improving the mental health of their employees. This is an important part of a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention — outlined in the Utah Suicide Prevention State Plan — that can empower employees and save lives.

“Using our translation capabilities, we were happy to empower businesses who can distribute these mental fitness resources to our diverse community,” said Cody Broderick, CEO and Founder of inWhatLanguage. “We started inWhatLanguage Impact to save, change and improve lives by breaking the cultural barriers that exist because of languages. I am proud of the translation services we provide to vital health and trade organizations, along with support to crisis-affected communities around the world.”

As businesses strive to become more inclusive and diverse, they will need to find ways to provide access to information to English Language Learners. inWhatLanguage was a key partner to help distribute these resources to the Spanish-speaking population in Utah.

The Salt Lake Chamber’s Utah Community Builders created the toolkit content in coordination with the Utah Department of Health, Utah Department of Human Services, Utah Suicide Prevention Coalition, and National Alliance on Mental Illness – Utah.
